Romain Grosjean: I’m not setting any goals for the Grand Prix of Australia

Ромен Грожан: Я не ставлю никаких целей на Гран При Австралии

On the eve of the first race of the season-2017, which starts next weekend at albert Park, the Haas racing driver Romain Grosjean summed up the results of winter testing and his impressions of the new machine.

“Pre-season tests went well. At the beginning of the difference compared with the previous year was particularly noticeable, he said Grosjean’s press service Haas. The team was much better prepared, they knew what to do. There were a few problems, but we were able to quickly eliminate them.

We drove a good distance, although I don’t think four days is possible to be well prepared for the first race of the season. But all things being equal, therefore, it was important to do the maximum.

VF17 – a good car with great potential that we have yet to uncover. The team laid a good Foundation, and overall I felt fine driving. There are several aspects in which I would like to add before the first race of the season. But overall, with this machine we can count on good results.

In the beginning of the season is always difficult to achieve high reliability. This year the load has increased and all the designers have worked hard to withstand them. Winter testing is primarily intended to test reliability.

Obviously, in the beginning of the season is always the risk to encounter failure, but at the same time it can play you on the hand.”

Grosjean also noted the progress of the Ferrari mechanics.

“I was pleased with the operation of the engine, – continued the Frenchman. Ferrari made a good step forward. The engine is good performance. We haven’t worked with a maximum capacity for training. But I have a good feeling. Think on the lines we will have good speed.”

At last year’s Australian Grand Prix Grosjean finished at sixth place and have done so points to the team Haas in his debut race in Formula 1.

“This result meant a lot to us. We do not expect to be so high after a difficult qualifying, but the race was awesome – remember Romain. – At the moment of crossing the finish line I felt like I won. Of course, we were lucky, but the race was perfect.”

As you know, during the season-2016 Haas failed to build on the success achieved and gradually the team has rolled back. Grosjean admits that in 2017 would prefer a slow start and progress during the year.

“I think this year will be the opposite – continued the Frenchman. – If I had to choose, I would prefer a slow beginning and hard work. In 2018, cars will be similar to the current, so a good end to the season will mean that the team understood the rules and everything is okay. So we want to progress throughout the year, adding race by race”.

As for goals for the Australian Grand Prix, Grosjean said: “I do not set any goals. Let’s see how everything goes. We will try to do our best and hopefully remember the next race is as good as last year.

I really like the track in albert Park. Because it is not stationary track, the adhesion to the asphalt during the weekend varies.

The race starts quite late but the Grand Prix is one of my favorites. This is a very demanding track from the point of view of fuel consumption. So the first race of the season promises to be interesting.”
