Pilot Sauber Pascal Wehrlein refused further participation in the Grand Prix of Australia. The Germans made this decision due to concerns that lack of physical training will not be able to drive the whole race distance.
Place of Wehrlein will take the backup Ferrari racer Antonio Giovinazzi, which has already replaced him on the first tests in Barcelona.
“Due to the lack of training, my fitness level is insufficient to drive the full distance of the race, – quotes Wehrlein press-service of the Sauber. – Last night I explained the situation to the team, and Sauber decided not to risk it. Sorry, but this is the best solution.”
Head Sauber Moniz, Kaltenborn added: “We respect the openness and professionalism of Pascal. Definitely, this decision has given him is not easy, but it only emphasizes its quality team player. Now he needs to focus on physical training, and in this situation we want to avoid unnecessary risks. Pascal will perform in China as planned”.
