Non-Executive Director of Mercedes Niki Lauda said in an interview with German TV station RTL that the results of the tests did not meet his expectations.
“Frankly, I’m unhappy with the results, said Lauda. We’ve tested a few updates that didn’t work properly.
We have some work to do to understand our car and to add to his speed. I am sure that in Melbourne we will solve these problems”.
Lauda, yet chose not to make predictions, however, admitted that the season promises to be difficult for Mercedes: “We have a difficult year, but we are optimistic and intend to show our best quality.
After the first three races we were starting to understand the alignment on the grid. Think Ferrari, Mercedes and Red Bull are separated by only two or three tenths. The peloton became denser, and it’s great news before the start of the season.”
The Austrian was satisfied with the work of newcomer Valtteri Bottas.
“Valtteri was close to the qualifying performance, with Lewis [Hamilton], and now he lacked only 0.2 seconds – added Lauda. – With regard to the long series of circles, it should also be added.
However, it is the first time piloting a Mercedes, so he needs time to learn and understand. Yet I am more than happy with the results.”
