Non-Executive Director of Mercedes Nico Lauda admitted that he didn’t expect to see Nico Rosberg in the garage of the German team during pre-season tests in Barcelona.
Niko announced the completion of the career pilot soon after clinched the League title at the end of the 2016 season.
“Honestly, I was surprised at his arrival, said three-time world champion in an interview with ORF. If I wanted to give up with F1, for as long as possible would have remained aloof from these events, spending time with his wife and child.”
When Nicky asked whether the visit of the President to indicate his desire to return, he replied: “No. I don’t think he will return.”
Moreover, Lauda believes that Nico coming to Barcelona is connected exclusively with the sponsor’s obligations to Mercedes.
“I don’t think he came here for tests. He is quite comfortable in the role of Ambassador,” concluded the Austrian.
