Renault racer Jolyon Palmer wants the team checked his car for any hidden damage after a crash in the practice session of the Australian Grand Prix.
In the second training session in Melbourne, the Briton flew into the fence out of the tyres at the exit of the last turn and the race was unable to finish due to problems with the brakes.
“On Friday I got in a serious accident where we had to replace a lot of parts, – said Palmer in an interview with AUTOSPORT. – We, however, need to make sure that everything works properly.
I hope the guys do it right. They have enough experience and knowledge, so I am not worried. However, before China it is necessary all once again carefully look at”.
The first weekend of the season was for Palmer failed: in addition to the crash in the second training session, in first session he had a problem with the gearbox, and in qualifying he was eliminated in the first segment because of a problem in the fuel system.
In the end, Jolyon lost 3.3 seconds to his teammate Nico Hulkenberg. According to the Englishman, a thorough analysis of Saturday’s problems have revealed several reasons for this gap.
“We found that some aerodynamic details worked not as it should be, because of what we have lost downforce, continued Palmer. – In qualifying instead of the expected five kilos of fuel we loaded more because of the problems. In the end the car behaved much worse.”
Before Palmer faced a problem with the brakes at the start it rose to 18-th position (due to the punishment lance Stroll and start from the pit lane Daniel ricciardo).
“I had a good start but on the Soft, we feel worse than those who were Ultrasoft, – said Jolyon. – Nevertheless, everything looked good.
We had to drive the racing distance to assess the final position and to wind the extra mileage. It is a pity that this could not be done.”
