World champion 1996 Damon hill believes that the dominance of Michael Schumacher and Ferrari in the first half of the 2000s hurt the Formula 1, and in the future it is important to avoid the recurrence of such situations.
From 2000 to 2004, “the Red Baron” won five League titles and were out of reach not only for competitors from other teams, but our own teammate Rubens Barrichello.
“It’s great when teammates are fighting among themselves, – quotes the hill Motorsport-Total. – The Simple and Senna in a McLaren winning 15 of 16 races, but this competition is good for the sport. It’s like the match of Nadal and Federer. If the dominant one, as Michael Schumacher at the time, and nobody can match him, it only hurts. We must avoid such situations.
Of course, other teams have to catch up with the leader in a natural way, not have a negative impact on the race. But in Formula 1 this problem was always there and yet no one has found a solution that really works.”
