Today in Moscow held a press conference regarding plans for the season 2017, the Russian SMP Racing programme.
The press conference was attended by the programme Manager Boris Rotenberg and its Executive Director Dmitry Samorukov.
Sergey Sirotkin: I will continue to work with Renault in 2017, but in a slightly different format
“Sergey [Sirotkin] and everything will remain unchanged – confirmed Rotenberg. On this issue, we plan to make a separate presentation.
Yes, Renault has been a change in head of program, but it will remain as it was. Separately tell you more. We still have a meeting with the new head, but the Frederick Wasser confirmed that everything will remain the same.”
Also at the press conference was aware of what projects will be involved in the first Russian F1 driver Vitaly Petrov in 2017.
“Of course, Vitali will be working on our new BR01 LMP1 prototype, and with that we had agreement on his performances in the LMP2 category, but the deal fell through, said Samorukov. In 2017 it will be very difficult for the WEC, as all manufacturers Ligier Dallara Oreca built a new machine: they are all fast, so to be on older cars does not make sense.
The partners with whom we were going to work [team Alpine], promised to build 2-3 cars, and built only one. So the question on the performances of Vitaly is still open.
We are looking for the best deals to Petrov played for a team that can win. We understand that Vitaly needs to obtain sufficient experience and reel before 2018 to get behind the wheel of the LMP1 car”.
