Consultant to Red Bull Racing Helmut Marko said that in the season of 2017 Renault will be able to start updating the powertrain with the Grand Prix of Spain.
In 2016, Renault has updated to Red Bull Racing engine under the brand name of TAG Heuer in Monte Carlo a week later, after the success of max Verstappen in Barcelona.
“The first tests of the engine [on a chassis dynamometer] in Viry-Chatillon were promising, – said Helmut. – If the gap from Mercedes is significantly reduced, then Renault will be in a good position to upgrade the motor at the start of the European season [which falls on the Grand Prix of Spain].
If to continue the topic of engines, I think we’re approximately on the same level with Ferrari, unless there is nothing supernatural. Mercedes is still a step ahead. However, if we are able to reduce the handicap, we will have the chance to impose the struggle.”
Recall that the pre-season tests in Barcelona will start on February 27.
