Chief race engineer Williams Rob Smedley said that rookie lance Stroll is well aware of the fact that his debut season in F1 will be for him difficult.
“He’s got a lot to learn, and we work with them closely to fill all the gaps that are always present for beginners,’ said Rob at the event, Autosport International. – At the same time, lance is aware that he needs to learn. He knows first season won’t be his easy stroll. This attitude of the rider, of course, helps.”
Smedley also talked about the new technical regulations in 2017.
“Obviously, the cars will be much faster compared to 2016 – continued Rob. – Some of the turns the pilots will take place at full speed, and problems with the clutch will be gone.
This machine will be the basis for auto-2018. We have plenty of staff in order to divide the forces at work on two machines.
If we talk about FW38, this machine is just not fast enough. We have analyzed the situation and found some areas where we lacked speed.”
