Co-founder of Red Bull Dietrich Mateschitz said that the departure of Nico Rosberg led Mercedes to begin negotiations with RBR at the expense of transition of max Verstappen or Daniel Riccardo in the Anglo-German team next season.
Rosberg of Mercedes was shocked by his departure five days later after receiving the trophy. In the end, the team began to hastily pick up options. Mercedes wanted to sign on as a master pilot of his protégé Pascal Wehrlein and one of the leaders on the grid, and in the end the choice fell on Valtteri Bottas.
“Helmut Marko and Niki Lauda discussed the subject among themselves, said Mateschitz in an interview with Speedweek. But it was not so serious, because everyone knew about the contracts of our riders. No one approached me personally with a request to terminate their agreement.”
The Austrian billionaire added that fully satisfied with the current Red Bull Racing, however, looks up from his protégé: “Carlos Sainz has made enormous progress, whereas in the case with Daniel Cuatom we are guilty, that were placed on him too much. Pierre went Out will remain as a reserve driver and will be a lot involved in the simulation.”
