Head of Renault Sport’s Cyril Abitbul said that after 2016 was dissatisfied with the work of the ward of Kevin Magnussen, which ultimately was the decisive argument in favor of termination of cooperation with the Dane.
“It would be logical, of course, leave Magnussen — quote Abibula in Auto Hebdo. — But to be honest, I was disappointed. And I remained dissatisfied with not only its results, but also attitude. Undoubtedly, he is talented, but he has problems with discipline, and he is too often looking for excuses”.
Abitol also added that Jolyon Palmer, unlike Magnussen, has made significant progress over the season.
“It was often so that on Friday Jolyon much lost, — continued the head. — However, he gradually increased the pace all weekend, while Magnussen could, on the contrary, to sink.
Palmer progresses in F1 at your own pace — in the same way as in GP2, where he took several years to become a champion. In fact, in 2017 it needs to be better.”
