DTM champion 2015 Pascal Wehrlein seems to have become even closer to returning to the German touring car series.
After two seasons in Formula 1, the German was unable to find a place to continue my career and have not yet announced their plans for the upcoming racing season. Mercedes already announced that it was ready to offer his protégé the position of test pilot. In 2014 and 2015 that did not stop the Wehrlein to successfully compete in DTM, and this time, problems too should not arise.
Toto Wolff: We will offer wehrlein to the position of test pilot
The group from Stuttgart has not yet announced its driver line-up for last season in the German touring car series. But we know that at least two riders will leave Mercedes. In mid-October last year, Robert Wickens announced his retirement in IndyCar, and now Maro Engel reported that focus on the Formula E and GT racing.
“It is a pity that this year some races of the Formula E and DTM cross – Engel commented on his decision. – I would like to compete in DTM, especially in the last season for Mercedes. However, we have decided that promising to focus on Formula E and GT”.
One place considered takes Wehrlein, while in the second free position claimed by Daniel Juncadella and Maximilian günther.
