BMW pilot Marco Wittmann won the final race of the season-2017 in Hockenheim, while Rene Rast became the new champion of the German touring car series DTM.
Before the start of Sunday’s race remained four contenders for the title, two – Mattias ekström and Jamie green started from the end of the peloton because of the fines obtained after the first race. This was a good start for the other two contenders rené Rasta and Mike Rockenfeller who were in a less advantageous position in the League, conceding 13 and 20 points to the leader Ekström.
Rast started the second and I lost some positions during the first lap, but later I concentrated and returned to second place, ahead of rivals one by one.
After the pit stop, the owner of the pole Tom Blomqvist German led the peloton. Along with the other three contenders he max pulled my stop in the pits, which allowed him to be ahead of BMW rider. But forward broke another pilot of the Bavarian concern Marco Wittmann
Neither green nor Rockenfeller not benefited from a late pit stop, and ekström. The Swede returned only 16-m, which effectively meant the collapse of all his hopes for a third title in the DTM.
After that, the intrigue in the battle for the title came down to one thing: whether avoid any hassles Rust? Second place was enough for him provided that ekström and finishes below sixth place. Matthias was able to climb to eighth position, but a larger count could not and was forced even to defend themselves from the attacks of Lucas Auer. The Swede could only hope the problems are Rasta, but his partner at Audi have not made a single mistake and calmly finished for Wittmann, securing a victory in his debut season in the DTM.
Together with the former and new champion on the podium Mike Rockenfeller, and the remaining fourth in the championship.
Fourth place went to Gary Paffett, while green broke fifth, but failed to maintain second place in the standings.
At the end of the season in the top four is a unique situation: Rast was ahead by three points, Extrema, which in turn as ahead of green, and the Briton three points ahead of Rockenfeller.
