Ward Mercedes Maro Engel won for the first time in the DTM, keeping the onslaught of Mattias Ekström in the second race at Moscow Raceway.
Engel started 17th and already in the first round went on a mandatory pit stop that was the right decision. On the fifth lap due to brake failure Maxim Martin, the track out the safety car – so Engel played the time lost at the pit stop, and on the restart was able to overtake Marco Wittmann.
Ekstrom started on the second, went in for a pit stop only in the middle of the race, however, Engel and Wittmann had no way to get around Nico Muller, which allowed Ekström to catch up with the racers. The Swede ahead of Loïc Duval and Tom Blomqvist, after which successfully attacked Wittmann in a straight line.
Ekström tried to get ahead of Engel, but the German pulled out a victory by only 0.3 seconds at the finish.
For the third place too was an intense battle in which the winner was Bruno Spengler. The loonie was ahead of rené Rasta, Jamie green and Marco Wittmann.
Mike Rockenfeller ahead of Blomqvist for seventh place, and the top ten rounded out Lucas Auer and Robert Wickens.
Thanks to the second place ekström recaptured the lead in the championship and one point ahead of Rasta.
