Ex-pilot of Formula 1 Gerhard Berger became Chairman of the Board of organizers of the DTM.
At the beginning of the year, the Austrian said that he had received a proposal to occupy a leading position in the German racing championship, but too busy with current business obligations, to agree.
Gerhard Berger: I don’t think I need a leadership position in the DTM
However, it is now officially confirmed that Berger was appointed the new Chairman of the ITR and will replace on this post by Hans-Werner Aufrecht, which, as expected, together with Hans-jürgen ABT and Walter Merriam left the Board of organizers of the DTM.
Within his new role, Berger will enhance the attractiveness of the German racing championship in the long term.
“My career in Motorsport I started Touring, and always with great interest watched the DTM, – quotes the AUTOSPORT Berger. – DTM – product independent, powerful rules, leading manufacturers, major sponsors, major international partners and a large number of fans. But this series is still a great potential.
The first task on which I will focus in the coming weeks, deepening in details with the support of my colleagues. We will then use this solid Foundation to create a joint strategy for the future.”
