Next season, the DTM will cut their starting grid by one quarter, thus, each of the manufacturers will present only six cars instead of eight.
After discussions at the season finale in Hockenheim was published on the official report of Audi, which says that in 2017 on the starting grid of the DTM will be only 18 cars instead of 24.
Mercedes also confirmed that now all six cars will compete under the emblem of the HWA Team, Art Grand Prix, Mucke Motorsport and leave the series.
As it became known, first and foremost, such a step was dictated by the desire to make the DTM more affordable for manufacturers.
Champion 2013 in the composition of the Audi Mike Rockenfeller sure that the serial decrease in the number of cars will not have a negative impact.
“Of course, every racer and fan wants to see as many cars on the grid, but it seems to me, the center of attention in a race is almost always the top three, – said Rockenfeller. It is important that the racing was exciting with plenty of overtaking and a beautiful car. In this regard, the DTM is doing everything right”.
BMW has announced that Martin Tomczyk and Antonio Felix da Costa to leave the series to represent the brand in GT and Formula E, respectively.
The Audi Timo Scheider retires, while Edorado Mortara has confirmed that goes into the Mercedes.
All three manufacturers tested at Oschersleben last week and started working on components for the season 2017, which cars to meet new regulations.
